Inspired by a creative collaboration between the poet Penny Boxall and the artist Naoko Matsubara, who produced a book of poems and woodcuts exploring the human hand, this workshop will consider the importance of hands - and how to write about them. From their use in communication to their role in relationships, hands can be central to our experience of being in the world. We will consider the place of hands in idiomatic language - 'give us a hand','I know her like the back of my hand' and find inspiration in the attention that visual artists have shown to hands. Writing by Gillian Allnutt, Bernard O'Donoghue, Isabel Galleymore, and others will lend us a hand as we write our own poems.
A notebook/writing paper and a pen.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
