Courses description

This 6 week course covers all things cyanotype and the different results that can be achieved with a range of techniques. Cyanotype is an alternative photographic printing process dating back to the 1800s that produces blue prints, typically using coated paper and light. In this course, we will not only explore the cyanotype process using a range of different papers, but we will also be covering how to make cyanotypes on different textiles and fabrics, as well as experimenting with wet cyanotypes and cyanotype toning.

By the end of the course, the goal is to have a mini portfolio of cyanotypes in a range of different mediums and techniques that you can be proud of.

This course is well suited for beginners as well as those with more experience. We will be using a range of materials to make our images, including but not limited to flowers, leaves, negatives (digital or film), and other translucent objects.

This course is in the darkroom, it is very much a standing course and in a small space.

Student testimonial:

I found the theory super interesting. I really appreciated that a lot of thought and space was given to answering questions we had, even if they were a bit niche. It felt like there was a very flexible approach to the class in general and that it was/could have been very tailored to the people present, which was impressive

This course has changed from the scheduled Tuesday sessions in the first half of term, to thursdays in the second half of term with tutor Sophie Sherwood.
