This workshop is suitable for DSLR, Mirrorless and Compact System Cameras only.
If you have some prior knowledge of your camera controls or have enjoyed any of Lee's Digital_x000D_ Photography courses, then this workshop is for you. It offers an introduction to using your camera in manual mode with off-camera studio flash. Your tutor will provide all the necessary equipment and demonstrate how to use it in a studio environment, including the setup of backdrops, studio lights, soft boxes, reflectors, and flash triggers.
Students will work in small groups, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere - photographing each other for some informal portraits. You will further your photography skills and may have questions for your tutor ie studio costs, photo styling, model release forms etc. This workshop may inspire you to start planning a suitable home studio space. At the end of the workshop, your tutor will use a selection of images to demonstrate post-processing using Adobe Photoshop CC.
Please note: Studio flash is not harmful but if you have related health concerns please contact the Bristol Folk House.
Please bring your camera and ensure that your camera battery is charged (bring a spare battery or charger if possible). A pen and paper to make notes will be useful. Your tutor will also supply notes. Students are also welcome to bring props or accessories (optional), to share with the group for portrait shots. This could be a favourite hat, glasses, jewellery or small hand-held musical instrument / other item. DSLR cameras are available and free to borrow in class, please select the With Camera Hire option at checkout.
Please note: All 10, and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our Contact us page. We are not open on bank holiday Mondays and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
