This course is designed to introduce you to various media and materials: charcoal, pastels, ink, paint, collage, simple printmaking, and more, with an aim to use more than one of these on the art pieces you create. The tutor will give some demonstrations, a lot of guidance if you need it, exercises, and a chance to create your own project towards the end of the course. The aim is to discover different ways of making art. All abilities are welcome, including absolute beginners.
Please bring along 2 or 3 brushes, a white plate or palette, and acrylic paint for printmaking, cheap student quality is fine: lemon yellow, cadmium yellow, white, raw or burnt umber, cadmium red, crimson, ultramarine blue, cyan or phthalo blue. If you have a set of acrylic paints, bring those.
The tutor will provide the paper. It would be helpful for students to be aware that they should collect materials themselves, such as found objects, photographs, scraps, etc so they have plenty of scope for their projects. The real essentials are acrylic paint and brushes.
Please note: All 10, and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our Contact us page. We are not open on bank holiday Mondays and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
