Oil Painting for Improvers
Start date: 05 November 24
Day: Tuesday
Course length: 0 day course
Time: 18:45 to 20:45
Description
A course for painters who have some experience with oil painting or have already completed a beginners course. During this course we will extend experience of oil painting including tonal values, colour mixing, painting procedures and technical elements such as when to use oil mediums. Students will be painting from photographs. They can choose their own subjects, these can include still-life, landscape and portrait painting. Students pick their own subjects that interest them, either bring with them or pick from the teachers selection of various subjects. The tutor will offer demonstrations and one-to-one support with your oil painting practice.
Student testimonials:
It was a really good atmosphere, Warren is very good in welcoming all, the teaching was great, very knowledgable, encouraging, entertaining, all one would like form a course.
The tone of a group is set by its head and Warren's nice demeanor made for a friendly easy going group.
Materials List
These are the recommended colours that I use:
Titanium white
Cadmium yellow
Yellow ochre
Cadmium red
Alizarin crimson
Burnt sienna
Burnt umber
Viridian Cerulean blue
Ultramarine blue
Ivory black
Windsor and Newton's Winton range are good, as are Daler Rowney's Georgian range.
I do not advise buying paint sets from places such as Lidl, Aldi, The Works etc. as they will not be of the quality needed to get the results you will want.
A selection of bristle brushes of various sizes, the filbert shape is the most useful.
Also a couple of softer synthetic brushes are useful for blending as well. Low odour thinners, no turps. (Sansodor is a good choice and widely available.)
Linseed oil or other painting medium
Two palette cups or 2 small jam jars
A palette, tear off paper palettes are handy
A3 or A4 oil painting sketch pad ( I use and recommend the Seawhite oil painting pad A3 size, its the one with a purple front cover. it is available from Bristol Fine Art on Park Row).
Also a few extras:
pencil-rubber, some kitchen roll is very handy.
