In this online course students will write short fiction in a range of genres and styles from flash fiction to longer stories, including a range of word counts. Form, styles and essential details will be explained along with prompts for subject matter. We will look at the basics of writing: 1. Structure 2. Narrative viewpoint. 3. Language and 4. Details of character, event and place. Some writing will be done in class and some at home. Hopefully students will be prepared to share their work with fellow writers in class who will offer constructive criticism on all aspects of short-story writing. Both beginners and practised writers are welcome. Previously, course students have joined with students on the Writing for All course to produce an anthology each year.
This class will be taught online. You will need to make sure your Internet connection is sufficient. This course will be a combination of online sessions and set homework tasks. Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
