Learn to capture the art of movement at Bristol's tutored live-motion drawing workshop. Guided by artist, Sachin Babbar, the sessions cover fundamental techniques (such as gesture drawing, form and dynamic composition) and explorative techniques to help you translate the energy and vitality of dance onto paper.
A local dancer (e.g. Contact Improvisation/ Contemporary/ Ballet and Indian Classical) will feature as the subject to bring you fresh inspiration. They will act out still poses and dance sequences in-line with their practice to allow you to explore this art form.
All skill levels are welcomed and encouraged. We will explore the power of motion in an open, relaxed and supportive environment.
Sachin will provide drawing materials including pencils, charcoal, calligraphy brushes for watercolour, watercolours and rubbers. If you desire to work with your own materials do not hesitate to bring those along.
Please bring a large cushion to sit on if you are happy to sit on the floor: I encourage people to sit on the floor, it also means that there is more space for the dancer. There are chairs available for students if you would prefer to be seated.
Please note: All 10, and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our Contact us page. We are not open on bank holiday Mondays and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
