Weekly Singing workshop with Senegalese Chanting Master Batch Gueye.
In this course we will sing the spiritual songs of the Senegalese Baye Fall people and traditional Griot songs from Senegal, Gambia and Mali, West Africa. Batch Gueye leads us to connect to our voice, to our heart and what the people need around us. In this way, singing is a form of prayer, teaching us to be kind and understanding. Open to everyone, we will harmonise, learn about our voices and feel what is inside of us.
Baye Fall - Senegalese Mouride collective whose role is to encourage people, bring people together, have kind ears to listen, work hard and remain humble. They often hold chanting ceremonies and feed their communities.
Griot - A griot is a West African storyteller, singer, musician, and oral historian.
Course dates: 23rd April, 7th May, 14th May, 21st May, 28th May (in halfterm). There will be no class on 30th April.
Please bring a scarf to sessions. For some spiritual songs, it is a sign of respect for women to cover their hair.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
