Embark on a journey through one of the most remarkable periods in art, science and exploration. Over a single afternoon, we will delve into the vibrant tapestry of the 17th-century Dutch Republic, a time of unprecedented prosperity, cultural efflorescence, and artistic innovation. With a spotlight on some of the era’s greatest artists including Rembrandt, Rachel Ruysch, Judith Leyster, and Vermeer, uncover the political and societal transformations that fuelled a burgeoning interest in science, geography, and natural history - and the profound transformation this had on the visual arts. This session is for all abilities - for those who do not know anything about art and want to learn more, as well as for more experienced art historians and anyone wanting to expand their knowledge on art or visual culture.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
