This workshop is suitable for all levels including beginners. Participants are welcome to bring things they would like to try mending - either to work on during the day or for advice if that's not possible. The day will provide an in-depth look at visible mending techniques, from basic principles to exploring a wide range of creative techniques for repairing and enhancing garments, whether it's developing confidence in a few of the fundamental stitches or, for the more confident, exploring decorative pattern making with embroidery and yarn. A great way to get you started with sustainable fashion, mending items you previously would have not kept, celebrating their imperfections and creating completely individual clothing. Techniques covered include embroidery, applique, darning, needle felting - the techniques used will be appropriate to the garments participants bring.
Student testimonials:
Felt very flexible and responsive to what we wanted and needed
Ronnie was really joyful. Lovely to stop and get absorbed in something. Very relaxing Sunday!
Ronnie was so kind and patient and fun. Great teacher! Made everyone feel welcome whatever skill we had (or hadn't in my case). She covered many different techniques which we could use at home. I loved the whole ethos of mending garments rather than buying more and wasting things.
Ronnie was wonderfully enthusiastic. Very hands on and so inspiring. She has ideas for mending everything with use of different techniques...This exceeded my expectations.
A wide range of materials and tools for mending will be available. Participants can bring garments they would like to work on and materials they would like to use if they have them
Please note: All 10, and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our Contact us page. We are not open on bank holiday Mondays and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
