Come and learn more about one of the most ancient known forms of creative expression! Alistair, who is a highly experienced professional woodcarver and tutor, will help you to turn your ideas into small woodcarvings. The course can potentially cover many different aspects of carving: choosing tools and timbers, history, sharpening - all in a relaxed, supportive and informal environment. Come with an idea in mind or try one of the supplied designs. The materials and tools will be provided to make it.
This course is suitable for complete beginners through to more experienced carvers who would like to finish a project or explore the fascinating world of carving further.
Please wear old clothes and sturdy shoes or boots. All carving tools will be provided. The first timber block is supplied and then further blocks can be brought in or purchased from your tutor.
Please note: All 10, and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our Contact us page. We are not open on bank holiday Mondays and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
