You are invited to experience the joy of Circle Singing. All are welcome whatever your perceived level of singing is. You may be rusty, or seriously voice-shy yet bursting to experiment with your vocal being, or you may be a more experienced singer who wants to connect, support and be supported through voice with other singers within a community of song. You might simply want to experience the joy of singing with others. Adults of all ages and genders are warmly welcome.
As a group of people who have never met before, I will gently and playfully lead you into making spontaneous music together which I will make up ‘in the moment’, inspired by you, the group. We will build layers of melodies, harmonies and rhythms to make a song which is unique to us at that time. Once the circle is built individuals may be invited into the centre to solo if they choose.
The Circle song may be simple or become complex....It is never the same. Circle Singing is a form of Collaborative Vocal Improvisation (CVI) where a group of people explore creativity through making music together which is made up spontaneously by a conductor or leader. It is deeply connecting, liberating, heartwarming, and healing.
CVI teacher Guillermo Rozenthaler (https://www.guillermorozenthuler.com) believes that Circle Singing is connected with ancestral ways of music making, that is why everyone can take part regardless of vocal or musical skills.
Bobby McFerrin (https://bobbymcferrin.com) first used the term 'Circle Songs' bringing this beautiful art form and community experience to the attention of the Western musical world.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
